As Elf the Musical kicks off its run on Broadway, all eyes are on the man who made it all possible. Elf tickets are selling like hot cakes and Bob Martin, the author of the book, says that writing and developing the tale of the overgrown elf that is really a boy has been great fun! Martin has already won a Tony Award for his brilliant The Drowsy Chaperone. Of Elf the Musical, he says, “I’m feeling very good. It’s been a really fun process with such a wonderful team. I know everybody always says that, but this time it’s really true.”
It looks like the writer with the magic touch really has fallen in love with his Christmas tale set in the North Pole and New York. Joining Martin on his Elfin quest is Casey Nicholaw, director-choreographer of The Drowsy Chaperone. Martin says he loves that Nicholaw treats him with such respect. “He even calls me in and allows me to give line readings to the cast if something isn’t going right and you know how rare that is!” Martin says with amazement.
Elf is slated to run on a 5-year cycle, with each annual run spanning roughly 9 weeks – the Christmas season. Martin’s Tony Award winning performance as Man in Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone didn’t exactly prepare the comedian for a role in Elf, though. There’s a lot of singing and dancing in Elf, and Martin says he is “too old” to manage it nowadays, but Sebastian Arcelus seems to be faring very well as Buddy, the protagonist, despite “losing weight rapidly”, according to Martin. Elf the Musical tickets are still selling at a rapid rate as the holidays approach and showing no sign of letting up. If you want tickets to Elf, you should check out the Elf the Musical schedule and buy Elf tickets soon. It’s a modern classic!
